Dave Zerkel

David Zerkel began the study of the tuba at the age of twelve in his hometown of Frederick, Maryland. He presently holds the position of Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Georgia, leading an active career as both a performer and educator.

David has performed as a featured soloist at many workshops and symposia to include the Leonard Falcone Festival, the 2000 and 2002 International Tuba Euphonium Conferences, and the United States Army Band Conference. In addition, he has perfrmed as a solo recitalist at many of the leading colleges and conservatories in the United States. Although the tuba is his primary instrument, he enjoys the challenge of keeping active as a performer on the euphonium as well.

David has performed as a member of the United States Army Band and the United States Army Field Band, both located in Washington, DC. He has performed with many orchestras, to include the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. He is a frequent performer with the New Sousa Band and maintains a busy performance schedule with ensembles throughout the Southeast.

Before his arrival at the University of Georgia, he taught in a similar position at Illinois State University. He has also held adjunct positions at American University, George Washington University and Virginia Commonwealth University. His students have distinguished themselves by winning International and National competitions and winning positions with professional performing organizations.

David resides in Athens with his wife Sara and their three children, Alex, Maddie and Jack.
