March 11, 2011 Spring concert update!

Tickets are still available for the Brass Band of Battle Creek Spring concert Saturday March 26th at 8 p.m. in W.K. Kellogg Auditorium.  

The Spring concert will be the finale to a year long 20th anniversary celebration.   The guest conductor is Constantine Kitsopoulos, music director of the Queens Symphony and general director of the Chatham Opera.  Constantine Kitsopoulos is also known for conducting operas and symphonies in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Royal Albert Hall.  

 The Brass Band of Battle Creek will feature favorite selections from the past twenty years of performances in Battle Creek including “Manhattan”, “Hymn for Diana”, and “Well, Git It” by Battle Creek native Sy Oliver.   Soloists for this concert include Woody English on cornet, Jens Lindemann on soprano cornet, Chris Jaudes and Rex Richardson on trumpet and Wycliffe Gordon on trombone.  Don’t be surprised if other artists jump in the spotlight during songs such as “Czardas” and “South Rampart Street Parade”. 

 The Brass Band of Battle Creek will also be playing the world premier of a march written especially for the BBBC.  The BBBC will also be awarding its first ever $1000 college scholarship to a Calhoun County graduating senior aspiring to major in music performance or music education during their college career.
